Впереди - репортаж об абсолютно полноценной заряженной машине широкого употребления - спортсменка, комсомолка и просто красавица, WRX STI, сделанная по заказу компании Valvoline (не сочтите за рекламу) в сообществе с известным тюнером R.J. de Vera (тот самый узкоглаз, который ведет "две тачки две прокачки" на MTV). Valvoline takes pride in being one of the industry’s leading distributors of motor oil and car care products. It has teamed up with R.J. de Vera to design and build a one-of-a-kind STI that is being displayed at Valvoline’s booth throughout the Hot Import Nights tour this year. R.J. is well known in the automotive industry for his past projects, as well as his five minutes of fame in the first installment of the Fast and the Furious trilogy. (Yes, he was the Asian guy playing Gran Turismo in his Civic.) With his attention to detail and knowledge of the scene, R.J. was a perfect candidate to design Valvoline’s sweepstakes car. That’s right, Valvoline will be giving this car away to one lucky person.

The aesthetics of this STI was kept clean and seamless. Just about every part on the exterior that could be modified was replaced with help from ChargeSpeed Japan and M.O.B Works of Orange, Calif. The front fascia, rear bumper, sides and front fenders were replaced with the JDM FRP pieces and sprayed in World Rally Blue. The trunk, hood and roof fin were imported in carbon and sprayed candy red to match the Valvoline color scheme. A custom set of 19” x 8.5” R2-5 wheels, specially designed by RO_JA and Rays Engineering, were fitted onto the car.

The powerplant of this beast is nothing but spectacular. Three hundred ponies and 300 ft.-lbs. of torque are provided from a 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine, which really doesn’t need any modifications when building a street car. But this isn’t just any street car. An assortment of ARC accessories were brought in to further extract more efficient power from the motor. To relieve back-pressure and allow excess fumes to exit the motor safely, an Espelir exhaust system was bolted on. In order to maximize the potential of all the performance additions, the STI was taken to XS Engineering for dyno tuning.

The suspension and brake system on the STI is matched to its power directly from the factory. But as we all know, the factory suspension simply won’t allow us to drop the car to the ride height we desire. H&R coilovers were installed and the STI was dropped to a nearly perfect stance, allowing the R2-5s to sit perfectly below the fenders.

Brembo is famous for designing the best brake systems around, but the blanks that come on the STI from the factory aren’t exactly a tuner’s No. 1 choice. Instead, a set of Project Mu SCR Pro rotors were installed to improve braking and cool faster, which preserves the brake pads. While the installation was in progress, the calipers were taken to M.O.B Works to have a candy red layer sprayed on.
